LIGNITE LEATHER & BELLS
If we would not use it ourselves we will not sell it to our customers!
Belts are a special passion of ours. It used to be that the only place in town that you could get a belt was the local Harnessmaker. He always kept a few
of the best straps of premium Bridle leather set aside for belts for his customers. When a customer needed a new belt he would tell the harnessmaker
what he was going to use it for, perhaps a heavy work belt to use out on the range or hold up his "Six Shooter". Or maybe a finely stitched Sunday belt to go with a new suit.
Whatever the use, the harnessmaker would select the leather and make a belt to suit the customers requirements. These handmade custom leather belts will last for years and
get better looking and better fitting with age. Our belts are made in the same tradition. Not a lot of fancy stamping or stitching, just the best English Bridle
leather and traditional buckles we can get our hands on! If you have an idea for a special custom belt please contact us and we would be happy to discuss them
with you.
Because all our belts are custom made one at a time to your specifications we need to hear from you in order to make you a belt.
The belts shown below are only suggestions and we can produce any width, length or style belt you require.
Please E-mail, or call, us and we will be happy to discuss your custom belt requirements with you.
Work and Every Day Belt
These Belts are the traditional heavy duty work belt. They start out cut from the backs of 10-12 oz. English Bridle Leather. The edges are then hand beveled,
dyed and slicked. Then a fine line crease edge detail is hand cut and impressed in the leather. Finally we fasten the buckle of your choice, with Barrel Screws. We can
add a single or double keeper as you wish. Keepers can be either hand sewn leather or polished metal depending on the look
you want. This custom handmade Belt will get softer and more flexible as you wear them and will slowly conform to your body for a very
comfortable fit.

Overlay Belt
Also known as a Lineman Belt this style of belt was developed as a rugged utility belt to stand up to pouches and tools being hung on.
it. The addition of a second piece of leather on top of the single ply of the body adds body and
strength to these heavy duty custom belts, not to mention a extra flair of style. These hand made Belts start as a single ply cut from the backs of 8-10 oz.
English Bridle Leather. Then we place a second piece of 8oz bridle leather on top of the body and stitch it in place with heavy harness thread. The edges are then edged
dyed and slicked. Finally we fasten the buckle of your choice, with Barrel Screws. We can
add a single or double keeper if you wish. Keepers can be either hand sewn leather or polished metal depending on the look
you want. Rugged enough for anything you can dish our and good enough looking for casual evening wear.

Dress Belts
These handmade Belts are old fashioned Sunday Best Belt. They are actually two belts stitched together. We start out with two
straps cut from our premium 8-10oz. English Bridle Leather. The edges of the straps are then skived, thinned, slightly on our 100 year old skiving machine, edge beveled and then stitched
together. The edges are then hand edged
dyed and slicked. Finally we fasten the buckle of your choice, with Barrel Screws. We can
add a single or double keeper if you wish. Keepers can be either hand sewn leather or polished metal depending on the look
you want. These Belts will get softer and more flexible as you wear them and will slowly conform to your body for a very
comfortable fit. These belts are not to be confused with the flimsy "thin edge" modern dress belts! They are about 2 to 3
times as thick and do not contain the cardboard "stiffener" that is often found in modern dress belts.

The best way to measure for your new belt is to use a belt that fits you comfortably and measure that for an exact fit. First
lay your belt flat and then measure from the inside of the buckle, where the tounge meets the buckle(see picture at left), to
hole that you normally wear your belt in. Typically I put 5 holes in a belt spaced 1" apart, but I would be happy to provide
more, or fewer holes or space them differently for you for a trully custom belt. Be aware that as your new belt "breaks in"
it will slowly conform itself to your body and become more comfortable with age. Becasue of this I make your new belt about 1/4
short to allow for natural stretch in the leather.
